Indo Russian pair of Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina marked this day as their day of win as the pair won the pair registered in their name the Women’s doubles title in Indian Wells played at the BNP Paribas Open by defeating eighth seeded Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Meghann Shaughnessy in straight sets on Saturday.
The American pair lost to Indo-Russian pair by 6-0, 7-5. They were completely outplayed by Mirza an Vesnina in the first set as the latter secured win over the set in just 25 minutes and not allowed a single point in the set. However, the American pair returned with all zeal and confidence as they took a 5-1 lead, but Sania and Vesnina turned the tide by winning six sets straight and got the set as well as match in their kitty.
With this win, Sania has got 10 doubles titles in her kitty while Vesnina has four. The duos were teaming up for the third time, reaching the quarter-finals at Dubai and Doha before claiming the title here.
Earlier on Thursday, Sania and Vesnina had defeated Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-0, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Cup.
While speaking to media, Sania told that she was even not looking forward to play Indian Wells but now she was planning to play there for the rest of the year.
It has also been reported that Sania will be playing in the Premier mandatory event in both singles and doubles with Vesnina which is going to be held in Miami.Share
