The first Friday of Ramadan month saw widespread protests in Muslim majority region of Kashmir as 4 people-three teenagers and one 65 years old man succumbed to the injuries made by the firings on the mob by the security forces. The insurgent group amidst this violence has decided to celebrate the Indian Independence day as the ‘Black day’ and thus security personnel are alert and curfew has been set up.
Security forces have set up curfew on Friday immediately after the death of four people in the latest of the series of demonstrations against the ruling government’s control over the disputed land of Kashmir. This Muslim majority region lying in the pocket of Himalayas demands the Indian government to withdraw the army from that region and let them included in Pakistan.
Thousands of security and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the streets to check any violent action of civilian on the national holiday. The police patrolling vehicles fitted with public address system repeatedly announced to the people to stay indoors and not move out.
Earlier yesterday, the curfew was lifted when the separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, warned the police of total defiance if the people were barred from praying their Friday prayers in Jama Masjid.
To check the latest situation in Kashmir, State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has decided to review the condition with top army, paramilitary and police forces. Kashmir has been burning in the inferno since last two months and violence was mainly triggered by the death of a teenager by teargas shell used by the police. The cycle of violence has not come to an end since 11th of June this year.
