Shunglu Report: Prasar Bharti responsible for 135 crore loss to India

Just a day after the Shunglu Committee submitted report on alleged irregularities in awarding broadcasting rights during Commonwealth Games to the office of the Prime Minister, it was not kept secret and was revealed immediately in front of public.

As per report, Prasar Bharti has been accused for causing the loss of Rs 135 crore to the Indian government and it further said that there was a clear nexus between SIS Live, Zoom and Prasar Bharti.

Government reacted strongly to the report on Tuesday and PMO has made it clear that it is going to take stern action on the accused.

As per statement issued by PMO, Prime Minister has taken a serious view of the findings of the first report of the Shunglu Committee on host broadcasting. The statement further added that stern action is likely to be taken on the basis of the cabinet secretary’s recommendations as the report has been sent to Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar.

Yesterday’s report indicted Prasar Bharti executives B S Lalli and Aruna Sharma for the alleged financial irregularities, and recommended action against them. It also said that the reasonable rates of contracts were not ensured by Prasar Bharti and it also caused deliberate delays in the schedules.

Report has been made by Shunglu, a former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, was appointed to head a committee to probe allegations of corruption in the conduct of the CWG.

More reports on the other contracts and conduct of the Games is to be submitted by the Shunglu Committee by March 31.
