Tata Nano, which is India’s most economic car, is all set to increase its price by Rs 6000. Tata Motors made the announcement of the increase in the price of Tata Nano on Friday. The reason for the increase in the price is due to the increase in the price of its input costs.
The increase in price will not apply to its first 1,00,000 customers who have booked for the car. Though for the “retainee customers”, who had retained their bookings though they are not among the “allotee-customers”, the increased price will be applicable for them. The price of the Nano at the time of launch was from 1.23 to 1.72 according to the variant.
Tata Motors have compensated for the increased prices by offering a choice of one-year free annual maintenance contract, or free accessories worth Rs 4,000, or an extended warranty. After the allotment of the first 1,00,000 cars, the bookings for the second round will also be announced later.
Since the prices of inputs like rubber, steel and copper had increased steeply, the prices were increased. The increase in price is considered “nominal” as it is increased by only 3-4% on the launch price. Other companies like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have increased in huge margin in order to cover the high input costs.
