In a major breakthrough, the Tehelka magazine has once again unveiled the faces of 15 individuals who are holding secret accounts in foreign countries. The names include: Manoj Dhupelia, Rupal Dhupelia, Mohan Dhupelia, Hasmukh Gandhi, Chintan Gandhi, Dilip Mehta, Arun Mehta, Arun Kochar, Gunwanti Mehta Rajnikant Mehta, Prabodh Mehta, Ashok Jaipuria, Raj Foundation, Urvashi Foundation and Ambrunova Trust . The alleged ill-gotten wealth was stashed in the LGT bank of Liechtenstein which is a known tax haven west European nation.
As per report of the sources, the weekly magazine claimed that it got access to 16 out of 18 names which were handed by Germany to the Indian government in March 2009. The list consisted names of 18 individuals who were having account in the bank and was handed over to the government on the terms of keeping it confidential.
The magazine in a statement said that the names included individuals as well as trusts and they were putting out 15 names without disclosing details like their addresses, the businesses they are involved in and the total money they have stored away in Liechtenstein.
The magazine claims that they contacted all the people on the list and received no response. They also claim to have at least 3 more names in their possession which will only be released after statements from those named.
According to the magazine, the name of the chairman of a major Indian corporation was on the list but it had decided to hold back the name because it was awaiting “his full version”.
With the list out in the open, an already embattled government will now have to face a fresh round of fire from the Opposition.
