Uninor celebrates Mahalaya with dhakis (picture)

Kolkata, Oct 7 (IBNS) Telecom service provider Uninor celebrated ‘Mahalaya’-the prelude to Durga Puja- with ‘dhakis’ (drummers) across Kolkata, West Bengal’s Siliguri and Asansol towns.

A procession of Dhakis travelled around the cities, rolling the beats of the drums in select pandals and thoroughfares.

Uninor Mahalaya Celebration:

Beginning early at 5am in the morning, along with the chanting of the mantras, people started Durga Puja 2010, with the Uninor brand acting as the alarm bell.

Speaking on the occasion, Akash Das, Executive President, Uninor, Kolkata Hub, said, “On the occasion of Mahalaya, this programme with the Dhakis all around the city has helped people to say – Ebar aamar pujo shuru Uninor er saathe (now my puja starts with Uninor).”

The Dhakis, dressed in bright traditional attires, rolled the festive beats at prominent pandals of Kolkata.
