Unruly Kasab spits at the court on webcam

Mumbai, Oct 19 (IBNS) Lone surviving Pakistani terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, Ajmal Amir Kasab, on Tuesday spat at the court for not being allowed in the courtroom and instead being heard from the jail and reports said he demanded his trial in a US human rights court.

He was agitated and his behaviour was unruly, reports said, quoting the judges.

The Bombay High Court on Monday began hearing through video conferencing the appeal by Kasab against his death sentence.

A TV report said the angry terrorist spat at the judges from the jail during the video hearing and threw tantrums. He also demanded his trial in USA’s human rights court.

His acts amounts to contempt of court.

Later, Kasab’s lawyer Amin Solkar said the court has asked him to visit him and pacify him.

“He was probably in the confused state of mind. He said he wanted to come to the court. But one does not know what exactly happened,” said Solkar.

“The court asked me to pacify him and explain how he should conduct himself,” the lawyer said.

He said while Kasab was about to go to washroom, he said he wanted to go to court.

“He was refused and perhaps he got a bit agitated then,” Solkar said.

In May this year, Kasab was sentenced to death by a Mumbai special court after he was found guilty of waging war against India.

At least 166 people were killed in the Mumbai attacks of Nov 2008, which came to be known as 26/11.

There was heavy security arrangement on the court campus as the two-day hearing started by a division bench of Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R V More on Monday.

Earlier, Kasab had laughed and appeared remorseless in hearings while public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam argued in court that the Mumbai attack was a “classic case of sponsored terrorism, borne out of deep hatred against India.”

Kasab, who was sentenced to death, is lodged in a solitary confinement at Arthur Road jail in the city.

The state government is awaiting the Bombay High Court confirmation on Kasab’s conviction after which he is likely to be shifted to Yerwada jail due to security reasons, police said.
