Woman claims city cops made her strip in front of her son

Mayuri, a 30 year old resident of Mayapuri slum cluster, has alleged that cops at a West Delhi police post forced her to remove her clothes in front of his child and demanded that she had sex with him. Her 12 year old son had been accused of stealing money from a car. Accordin to Mayuri, the incident took place in the presence of police officers and a woman constable.

On learning on May 22, that both of her sons Raju (12) and Ramesh (10) had been detained by the police, Mayuri went to the police post only to get abused and turned away by the cops. Mayuri and her husband Satish returned the next day to get their sons freed. According to the family, that’s when the cops started harassing Mayuri.

Mayuri said that the cops isolated her from her husband and her younger son and locked her from inside. Then they started interrogating her and Raju and told him to return Rs. 6000, which they believed he stole from a woman’s car. Upon denying the charge, the cops ordered her to strip while beating her with a lathi. The torture continued further as another cop stepped up and told her to have sex with his son. Mayuri and her son were released after 2 hours.

Mayuri has filed a complaint with the police commissioner. The area DCP, Sharad Aggarwal, has order an inquiry into the incident. The DCP has said that a final report will be put up soon. The statements of both the mother and son have been recorded.

The cops are denying the incident saying that the act of stripping is improbable and that they had bribed the family to withdraw their complaint.
